Finally! A finger-woven bracelet I can actually wear!
A beautiful package of weaving threads appeared at my house, and I haven’t been able to think about much else. The colors are gorgeous, and they make the techniques of finger-weaving and micro-macrame so much easier than when you’re using the wrong materials!

So, after a few false starts, I finally came up with a bracelet that I’m actually willing to keep. It’s nowhere near as fine as the ones my friend Gladys makes (I’m hoping she’s going to give me permission to post a few of hers here soon!), but it’s passable. See my earlier post for a really pathetic attempt that had to be cut apart!

After the first flush of success had settled, I knew that I could do better, so I gathered up some lucite flowers and a stash of pink beads, and made this one:

Both of these bracelets are to-die-for-gorgeous!!!! Beautiful use of the technique, balanced, lovely!!! Like the Goblin in the poem “Overheard on the Saltmarsh,” I WANT them!
Will you please tell us more about the cord? Where did you get it? Is it S-lon? How big are the spools when full? I’ve been trying S-lon, which does come dozens of wonderful colors. But I don’t like it as well as Mastex, because it’s so stiff and curly… also because it’s slightly larger diameter, which makes it more difficut (or downright impossible) to use with small-hole beads. I hope to hear your impressions after working with your new cord.
Also, on a different subject, I’d like to invite you to consider participating in The Bead Journal Project! You can read about it on my blog. The idea came from the Quilt Journal Project. What do you think? Any interest? Can you make the time for it?

Oh jeepers! I see my link on the threads doesn’t work…I’ve got to fix that. Thank you Robin! The threads are C-Lon cords, and each bobbin holds about 86 yards, according to “Jewels in Fiber”, from whom I bought them. That’s quite a few treasure bracelets or necklaces per bobbin.
I don’t have any problems with the cord being stiff and curly…I just stretch it by hand before starting. The diameter can certainly be a problem, but my friend Gladys has cleverly taught us about going back in afterwards to sew on smaller seed beads.
Gotta go fix that link now! I’ll email you about the Quilt Journal Project
